About Us

Founded in 1981 by Gary E. Hanold, Columbus Controls Inc. has become a leader in building, and supplying custom control panels.  Shortly after operations began, we leased a 1,500 sq. ft. facility on County Line Road in Westerville, Ohio. Later that year, several technicians were hired that still remain with the company to this day.

In 1986, Paul Van Schepen became Vice President of sales.  In a short time, we acquired more customers, which resulted in our lease space increasing to 5,000 sq. ft.  Due to successful business, we needed additional space.  This prompted us in 1991 to acquire land in the Johnny Appleseed Corporate Center just off State Route 3 (Westerville Road) in Columbus, Ohio.

In the summer of 1992, we began construction of our 10,500 sq. ft. shop and office.  In October of that year, we moved into our facility and began yet another remarkable growth period. Due to our continued growth, the second phase of our building campaign (3,500 sq. ft.) began in the spring of 1994.

In 1998 Paul was promoted to President in anticipation of Gary retiring the following year.
